Chelsea’s Latest Signing vs Arsenal Target – Who Comes Out On Top When Compared?

Chelsea’s new signing Michy Batshuayi has had a good start to life in the Premier League. Although he started both games from the bench, he has already scored once and provided one assist. He’s given Conte a bit of a selection headache and he might be in for his first start against Bristol Rovers in the League Cup. Although Batshuayi primarily played up front last season, he played behind Costa both times he was brought on. He’s shown time and time again he’s very versatile up front. He is quick to adapt to the way the manager wants him to play and he’s speedy as well.

Alexandre Lacazette has been a vital player for Lyon over the last few seasons. He ended up being Ligue 1 Player of the Year for the 2014-15 season and finished the season as top scorer. Much like Batshuayi he’s capable with both feet. He’s very good on the ball and he’s an excellent finisher. His hold up play is also decent, being very useful at times when his back is towards goal. While Batshuayi scored 17 goals in 36 Ligue 1 appearances last season, Lacazette managed 21 goals in 34 appearances. It wasn’t smooth sailing for both of them

While Batshuayi scored 17 goals in 36 Ligue 1 appearances last season, Lacazette managed 21 goals in 34 appearances. It wasn’t smooth sailing for both of them throughout though. Lacazette struggled initially but soon found the back of the net. Batshuayi had a lot of pressure leading the line for Marseille and naturally he did find it difficult at times. Despite that he managed 17 goals. He’s also only 22. Batshuayi likes taking on defenders and he’s adept at it. He completed 1.08 successful take ons per match last season. Lacazette however did even better completing 1.68 successful take ons per game last season. His ability to get past defenders often leads to him winning crucial free kicks around the box. Conte seems to prefer playing Batshuayi behind Costa and his ability to create chances will be crucial. While he created 0.75 chances per game last season, he did assist 9 times. Lacazette on the other hand created more chances with 1.26 per game. He only assisted 3 times through last season. Batshuayi also does seem to have a problem with his attitude. Belgian club Anderlecht released him after just one season due to his poor attitude which he conceded was the right decision. Even while at Marseille he was sent off and then suspended for 2 games after he elbowed another player. Although Lacazette was unhappy with Lyon’s President when he was due to sign a new contract, he hasn’t had many problems. Both players however didn’t receive a single red card last season. Batshuayi also made an impressive 3.39 shots per season whereas Lacazette made 2.79.

Being 22 and 25 respectively, both these young players have bright futures ahead. With Batshuayi making the move to the Premier League, it will be interesting to see whether Lacazette will make that move. Arsenal were interested in him but had more than one bid rejected.
