Chelsea’s attack would look impressive if they manage to complete £35m deal for this rising English star

Why Callum Wilson would be a fantastic signing for Chelsea

According to a report from the Sun, Chelsea are planning a £35m January swoop for Bournemouth star Callum Wilson.

The 26-year-old has enjoyed a rich vein of form this season, having already netted six goals and supplied a further four assists for Bournemouth. He bagged his 50th goal for Bournemouth in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United and his brilliant form has earned Callum Wilson a first call-up to the England national team.

Maurizio Sarri is looking to bolster Chelsea’s attack when the transfer window reopens in January despite Alvaro Morata’s recent upturn in form.

Morata has cut a frustrated figure ever since he joined Chelsea last summer from Real Madrid and also endured a poor start to the new campaign. Sarri preferred Olivier Giroud up front in the Premier League games, which saw Morata appear only in cup competitions for the Blues.

However, the Spaniard seems to have hit top form in recent weeks and scored a brace in Chelsea’s 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace in the Premier League last weekend.

But it appears as if Sarri is not satisfied with his current striking options and wants to bring in another forward to beef up his attack. And Callum Wilson could be a fantastic signing for Chelsea in the winter transfer window.

Wilson has fought back from two gruesome knee injuries since helping Bournemouth get promoted to the Premier League. He has been a reliable goalscorer for Eddie Howe’s Cherries when fit and has demonstrated his quality this season as well.

Not to forget, the 26-year-old netted in Bournemouth’s 3-0 victory against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last season.

The Englishman is a pacy, agile and physical striker who excels at holding up the play and bringing his teammates into the game. Wilson is a clever customer and uses his blistering pace and intelligent movement to terrorise the opposition. The Coventry-born striker is lethal inside the box, which makes him a handful for defenders.

It is not only the goals that make the 26-year-old such a handy footballer to have up top; Wilson works extremely hard off the ball and is adept at creating chances for his teammates as well. His link-up play is excellent and is certainly more mobile than the likes of Giroud and Morata.

Neither Alvaro Morata nor Olivier Giroud has impressed on a consistent basis this season, hence, Sarri is right in trying to recruit a new striker. Keeping that in mind, Wilson would be perfect for Sarri’s style of play at Chelsea.

At 26, Wilson is playing at the peak of his powers and is scoring goals on a consistent basis for Bournemouth. Hence, Eddie Howe would be desperate to hold onto his star man, which would make it difficult for the Blues to sign him in January.

But Sarri must do everything in his powers to lure the Bournemouth ace away to Stamford Bridge, even if it means splashing a big sum of money.
