Chelsea’s attack would become a fearsome force if they sign this World Cup runner-up in the summer – opinion

Chelsea Opinion: Why Ante Rebic will be a brilliant signing for the Blues?

Eintracht Frankfurt’s front three is one of the hottest in Europe right now, with the likes of Ante Rebic, Sebastien Haller and Luka Jovic ripping apart defences in the Bundesliga this season.

Ante Rebic has scored 7 goals and supplied 3 assists in the Bundesliga since joining Frankfurt on a permanent basis from Fiorentina last summer.

And now the 25-year-old, who played a big part in Croatia’s run at last summer’s World Cup in Russia, has put the Premier League clubs on alert after revealing his dream is a move to England (h/t Daily Mail).

Keeping that in mind, Chelsea should make a move for Rebic in the summer transfer window. It’s been a difficult 2019 for Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea so far. The Blues were humiliated at Bournemouth last month before Manchester City whacked them 6-0 at the Etihad last weekend.

Maurizio Sarri

While Sarri’s side bounced back from last Sunday’s humbling at Manchester City to beat Malmo in the Europa League on Thursday, questions remain about the quality of their squad.

Willian has commanded huge levels of praise during his time at Stamford Bridge but the Brazilian has not exactly been smashing them in for Chelsea this term. He has contributed with just three goals and four assists in 24 Premier League games, with no end product to his game, yet.

Pedro, meanwhile, has scored seven times in the league but even he has struggled for consistency under Sarri. Eden Hazard has made a decision on his future amidst interest from Real Madrid.

Chelsea might have upgraded on Willian by signing Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund but Hazard’s potential departure after the end of this campaign could leave a big hole in the squad. Sarri should attempt to bolster his attacking ranks by bringing in Ante Rebic from Frankfurt.

Ante Rebic

A silky dribbler with a powerful shot in his arsenal and a very hard worker as well, Rebic is capable of playing anywhere across the front-line. He is aggressive as well as inventive on the ball, holding the ability to torment defences with his searing pace and agility.

The dynamic Croat is capable of influencing big games and his competitive nature plus work rate would make him a perfect fit for Sarri’s style of football.

Conclusion

Chelsea have been overly reliant on Hazard for assists and goals this season, making them a very predictable team under Sarri. The Blues have been toothless in the attack at times, with the likes of Willian, Pedro and Ross Barkley struggling to unlock the tightest of defences.

Hence, a player of Rebic’s quality and pedigree would give Chelsea’s attack the cutting edge they have lacked this campaign.
