Chelsea would be wise to drop Tammy Abraham and provide chances to this 15-goal international hitman

Why Chelsea must start Michy Batshuayi ahead of Tammy Abraham

As per a report by Daily Express, Chelsea fans have urged boss Frank Lampard to consider Belgium striker Michy Batshuayi in the starting line-up ahead of Tammy Abraham after the former’s impressive tally for Belgium.

Batshuayi scored the first goal in Belgium’s 2-0 win over Kazakhstan and has scored 15 goals for his country in just 27 appearances. Meanwhile, Abraham is yet to make his senior debut for England.

Abraham has represented England in the UEFA Euro U21 (2017-19), where he scored four goals in nine appearances and found the back of the net three times in six games.

Batshuayi is yet to make a Premier League start for Chelsea this season but he has made a substitute appearance in each of their last five matches. He scored a goal in their 4-1 over Southampton.

Abraham, on the other hand, has shown his potential by scoring eight league goals in as many appearances and is currently the Premier League joint top-scorer alongside Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero.

Batshuayi scored twice in the Blues’ 7-1 Carabao Cup win against Grimsby Town. He also impressed for Crystal Palace during his loan spell last season, scoring six goals in 13 appearances.

Abraham was outstanding during his loan spell with Aston Villa last season as well, scoring 24 goals and helping the club gain promotion to the Premier League.

Lampard’s Chelsea will be hosting Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on October 19th. They also will face Ajax four days later in the Champions League.

Dropping an in-form Abraham would be a big decision against Newcastle United since they have already stunned Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. Chelsea are currently fifth with 14 points which include four wins and two draws in eight games.

However, handing a chance to Batshuayi would be a huge boost for the Belgian’s confidence. He has given enough performances to earn a chance in the starting line-up against Newcastle.

Doing so would be a win-win situation. Not only will Batshuayi receive a golden chance but Lampard can keep Abraham fresh for the important Champions League game against last year’s semi-finalist.
