Chelsea vs Bournemouth report: Chelsea match report

Chelsea suffered yet another defeat in the Premier League after losing 1-0 to Bournemouth. This makes it 4 losses in their last 5 domestic league games. They seem to be deteriorating after a successful spell under Frank Lampard.

Both teams created chances in the opening 10 minutes. First Kepa Arrizabalaga kept out a low shot from Ryan Fraser and then it was Aaron Ramsdale who ran forward to save Mason Mount’s effort from close range.

Tammy Abraham then shot wide after latching on to Cesar Azpilicueta’s cross and the Cherries were able to keep their hosts quiet for some time. Willian then won a free-kick and Emerson just curled it wide of the left corner of Bournemouth’s goal. But it was not a bad effort.

By the half-hour mark, the Blues had 6 shots on Bournemouth’s goal but none of them was productive enough. They kept passing between themselves and tried to put in crosses, but to no use.

Bournemouth did their job well to keep themselves from conceding and they looked to better than their previous poor displays.

The second half began with Chelsea looking less threatening despite having control of the ball. But Bournemouth were energetic after the break. The Blues were struggling to call Ramsdale into action and both sides made vain attacks in their efforts to break the deadlock.

Six minutes after the hour mark, the Cherries missed a golden chance to go ahead after Joshua King squared up a pass to Dan Gosling, who just needed to tap it home from the spot but instead slipped and missed the chance.

The Cherries goalkeeper made a big contribution by saving Emerson’s point-blank header, which the Italian should have scored. That save gave Eddie Howe’s men the momentum to seal the game after the breakthrough came in the 84th minute.

Chelsea cleared Gosling’s effort on goal but the ball came back to him and with his back towards the goal he cheekily chipped it above Kepa, who was ahead of his line. Azpilicueta’s effort to clear the ball after it crossed the line went in vain.

The goal was initially ruled offside by the referee but VAR reviewed it and Gosling was clearly onside and eventually, the goal stood. Chelsea quickly went in search of the equalizer after putting in a lot of crosses but Bournemouth stood firm and went on to claim the win.

Here’s how some frustrated Chelsea fans reacted to the result:
