“Defence is a disaster”, “Abysmal game management”: Some Chelsea fans react to 4-3 win vs Slavia Prague + Match report

Chelsea vs Slavia Prague Report – Chelsea Match Report

Chelsea held off a Slavia Prague fightback to beat them 4-3 at Stamford Bridge in the second leg of the Europa League last-eight tie. The Blues eventually went through to the semifinals on an aggregate score of 5-3.

Pedro scored a brace, while a Simon Deli own goal and Olivier Giroud were the other scorers for the home side. Tomas Soucek and Petr Sevcik’s goals gave Prague some hope, but it was too much to do in the end.

Around the fifth minute, Chelsea played some good football on the right-hand side involving Cesar Azpilicueta. Pedro then played a neat one-two with Giroud and scored to give his team the lead and a perfect start.

It was 2-0 moments later when Eden Hazard flashed a dangerous ball across for Pedro to hit the post. Deli was there to clear but the ball ricocheted off him into the back of the net.

In the 17th minute, Giroud scored to put the Blues in a commanding position on the night. But Prague’s captain Soucek pulled one back in the 25th minute. However, Pedro restored the three-goal lead on the night two minutes later.

Five minutes into the second half, Sevcik scored a lovely goal with his left foot, beating Kepa at his near post. Four minutes later, the same man scored again, this time curling his effort at the far post, leaving the Chelsea keeper with no chance.

At this moment, echoes of Anfield capitulation came into everyone’s minds. Maurizio Sarri’s side lost rhythm of their play and the away side actually believed in the miracle.

However, at the end of the night, the two-goal cushion helped them get over the line and keep their trophy hopes alive.
