Chelsea splashing £50m on this World Cup-winning creative star is an absolute no-brainer

Why Nabil Fekir would be a brilliant fit for Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea

According to a report from the Sun, Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is preparing a mega £50m bid for Lyon star Nabil Fekir. Maurizio Sarri’s interest in the player is so deep that he personally called him in an effort to lure the French midfielder to Stamford Bridge.

Nabil Fekir was a part of the France squad that lifted the World Cup in Russia earlier this year. Liverpool were inches away from signing the Frenchman in the summer but the deal fell through at the final hour and the player stayed put at Lyon.

The 25-year-old has already bagged four goals for Lyon across all competitions this season and has attracted the attention of Chelsea.

Chelsea, under Maurizio Sarri, have made an unbeaten start in the Premier League. Sarri has made the Blues play an exciting, high-tempo brand of football this season and in doing so, they have managed to lay down an early marker in the Premier League.

The Londoners’ summer signings have gelled in very well, with the likes of Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho and Kepa Arrizabalaga performing consistently week in and week out. Ross Barkley has been a revelation under Sarri, but N’Golo Kante has not been able to adapt to a slightly advanced role.

Kante is one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe but he is not a creative player who can split open defences with a telling pass. The diminutive Frenchman’s lack of creativity as an advanced midfielder has hurt the Blues at times this season. And for the advanced role on the left in Sarri’s preferred 4-3-3 system, Nabil Fekir could be the perfect player.

Fekir is a versatile player who can play in the midfield as well as in the attack. It is his flexibility that would give Chelsea a lot of options. A quick, athletic and industrious left-footed player, Fekir can be considered as one of the best dribblers in Europe.

The Frenchman doesn’t possess explosive pace but he has the ability to make driving runs from the midfield and shoot. The 25-year-old distributes the ball well in the midfield and has an eye for a killer pass in the final third. To add to his dribbling skills and vision, Fekir is also a dead-ball specialist.

Chelsea currently have a whole host of talented midfielders in their squad such as Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Ross Barkley, Mateo Kovacic, Danny Drinkwater and Cesc Fabregas. Hence, bringing Fekir into the mix could add even more competition for places within the Blues squad.

All in all, Fekir would be a brilliant signing for Chelsea as he will add a lot of energy and dynamism to Sarri’s midfield. That being said, Sarri should do everything in his powers to lure the highly-rated Frenchman to Stamford Bridge when the winter transfer window opens.
