Should Chelsea Splash The Cash On This English International? Or Is It Too Soon?

The inquest has already begun regarding Chelsea’s 3-0 loss to Manchester City, the biggest talking point, apart from the requirement for two sets of medical teams on the pitch for the team from London, was the fact that John Terry, who played every minute of last season was substituted in the second half to bring on Kurt Zouma.

Zouma was brought in, according to Jose, so that a bit of pace could be brought into the centre of defence, while that didn’t work out well for Chelsea as they shipped in a couple of goals in the second half, the need for a stronger defence still continues. Chelsea have tried to get in John Stones from Everton and despite seeing a lot of their bids being rejected, this hasn’t deflated Chelsea by any means and they seem hell-bent on getting the English defender from Everton.

While Stones, who is only 21-years-old, might be a little too young to play right from the go, he is one of the best defenders in that age group and that is exactly what makes him so cherished, especially by Chelsea.

Stones was once again brilliant for Everton over the weekend and he keeps on getting better. There might be other defenders out there in England or in other countries, but they do not provide what Stones does. Most importantly for Chelsea or for any club that does want to sign him is the fact that he has been playing top level football for close to two seasons now.

He was so good when he started playing for Everton that he became the first choice fairly quickly and now has cemented his position in the team. Last season was a bit of a test for the defender when Everton had a rather woeful season, but he still was one of the better players for the Toffees. Stones though should be wary before he makes a decision, Chelsea would want him because he is young and can be a replacement for John Terry in the long run plus he has played in England and knows the game very well.

The problem that Stones could face is that he would not get regular first team football if he does sign for Chelsea. He might be playing regularly for Everton, but Chelsea would still continue with the pairing of Terry and Cahill, which could stagnate the career and growth of Stones. For Chelsea, there really is no other option than Stones, if they want to buy English, and as we have already seen this season, young, talent English players go for a huge sum of money. Chelsea better gets their cheque books ready if they want to sign the talented defender.
