The time is right for Chelsea to bid goodbye to this Argentinian stalwart in the final year of his contract – Agreed?

Why Chelsea should offload Willy Caballero

According to a report in Football.London, Frank Lampard has a clear plan about his transfer activity, with Willy Caballero likely to be offloaded in the final year of his contract. The Argentinian international is now 37.

The Argentinian hasn’t played much since his move from Manchester City two seasons ago and will probably be remembered during his time at Chelsea for the controversy last season during the Carabao Cup final, where Maurizio Sarri wanted to get the Argentinian on during the final minutes for Kepa Arrizabalaga for the penalty shoot-out.

Caballero has always been very error-prone and would not really add much to Frank Lampard’s side as he’s not the best distributor. Also, he can come up with the occasional howler and is just too old now to improve upon it. As mentioned above, he is very good at saving penalties.

Kepa is the Spanish number 1 now and while he’s got a lot to improve upon, he’s still very young and has room to improve in his shot-stopping as he’s not got the biggest reach and he should ideally be able to work on that as he plays more games.

Goalkeepers don’t usually reach their peak until much later in their career and Chelsea can count on him for another season without trouble.

Chelsea’s defence has been a problem without Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz no longer in the team. It’ll be imperative that Kepa has a good season to help save that defence from embarrassment this season.

Chelsea haven’t had the ideal start to life under new boss Frank Lampard having lost 4-0 to Manchester United, losing to Liverpool on penalties in the UEFA Super Cup and getting outplayed for the majority of their game against Leicester City at home.  However, the season does seem a write-off.

There were encouraging signs in all of their performances but they need to sustain those levels for 90 minutes and not drop off after 15-25 minutes.

They face a Norwich Side, who has taken the Premier League by storm in their first couple of games with Teemu Pukki starring as one of the players, who has been in great form.

Frank Lampard needs to get his vision for the club realised and offloading the likes of Caballero is a step in the right direction.
