Chelsea Player Ratings vs. Burnley: Ref’s Horrible Day Ruined The Game

Chelsea Player Ratings vs. Burnley

This could have been the day the Premier League race got interesting, Chelsea had a seemingly easy game against Burnley and they took the lead but Burnley fought back and held on to grab an unlikely point against the Premier League leaders.

Branislav Ivanovic scored for the Blues but they were denied a couple of penalties by referee Martin Atkinson, the match then turned around in the second half when Nemanja Matic was sent off for a reaction after a tough tackle on the Serbian, Matic got a red card for pushing Ashley Barnes and this gave Burnley the momentum to score through Mee in the 81st minute.

An unexpected result could have thrown the race for the Premier League title wide open and we rate the Chelsea players for the game.

Chelsea Player Ratings vs. Burnley

Thibaut Courtois: 5/10

Courtois came back into the side but still looked shaky and should have done better in dealing with Burnley’s equalizer, maybe Cech does have some work at Chelsea after all.

Branislav Ivanovic: 8/10

The best right back in the World? Chelsea fans would agree, Ivanovic was excellent in defence and even scored a goal to continue his great run.

Kurt Zouma: 6/10

Zouma is growing into the role that Chelsea expected him to be able to do; he might become a replacement for Gary Cahill for the rest of the season if he continues to play like this.

John Terry: 7/10

Terry was impressive like Zouma but deserves more credit since he is 34 and even played in midweek against PSG.

Felipe Luis: 6/10

Looked good in attack, something which he has worked on it seems, if Luis continues playing like this he should get more chances for the club.

Cesc Fabregas: 5/10

Fabregas looked rather jaded and maybe he just needs a rest after playing so many games for the Blues.

Nemanja Matic: 5/10

Sent off in the second half for a push, Matic was subjected to a rather rash challenge but his reaction and sending off cost his club massively.

Juan Cuadrado: 5/10

The Colombian has come with a big price tag but needs some more time to settle at Chelsea and to learn about the English game.

Oscar: 5/10

A quiet outing by the Brazilian who could not do much to a resolute Burnley defence.

Eden Hazard: 7/10

Hazard did help Chelsea by making the first goal but then went missing for the rest of the game; Chelsea needed him to do more.

Diego Costa: 5/10

Costa needs the Chelsea midfielders to feed him but since they had an off day, the Spanish striker also seemed out of sorts.

Substitutes:

Willian: 5/10

Couldn’t really get into the game as he came on in the second half.

Ramires: 6/10

Came on as the same time as Willian and did a decent job as Matic was already sent off.

Didier Drogba: NA

Couldn’t really do much since he came on late in the game.

Referee – Martin Atkinson (Flop of the game): 3/10

Horrible game from the man with the Whistle . Clear handball was not given and potential leg breaking challenge on Matic was ignored too.
