The dust hasn’t settled from Chelsea’s tumultuous match against Swansea and the heads still keep falling. Jose Mourinho, like Jose Mourinho does decided not to blame his players for taking Swansea lightly and decided to have a go at long term club doctor Eva Carneiro for providing assistance to Eden Hazard late on in the game.
The crux of the issue lies with Chelsea being down to 10 men and Jose not wanting the doctor to go onto the pitch to treat a player unless he was injured severely. As everyone knows, if the doctor comes to treat any player on the pitch, the player needs to go off the field. This meant that Chelsea were down to 9 men since Courtois was sent off and could have been susceptible to the counter attack from Swansea.
While Eva was doing her bit of providing medical assistance to the player, Jose seems to be irate at the incident and has ordered the doctor not to be present during training sessions and matches anymore. This however, sets a dangerous precedent as she was just doing her job, basically ensuring that no player suffered from an injury, Eden Hazard had a huge hit and that could have led to a serious injury, if indeed Jose wanted his medical team to go onto the pitch when a player was seriously injured, then Hazard should have gotten up quickly, if anyone is to be blamed for this situation it is Hazard, if he was not injured, he should have gotten up or at least signalled to the bench he was alright to continue.
Eva would not have known the extent of Hazard’s injury and rushed onto the pitch to ensure the player was going to be alright, if Hazard was actually injured seriously, would Jose be singing the same tune that he is now? Probably not, Jose has a history of deflecting the blame from his team and players whenever they perform below par and that is exactly what he is doing right now. Blaming the medical staff has taken the heat off his team, especially since they were rather poor against Swansea who should have nicked the win.
Jose likes to play games and protect his team overall, but this move certainly was not the right one by the Portuguese. You cannot stop a person from doing their job, especially when serious injuries are a common feature in a contact sport like football. Jose might have crossed a line this time with support pouring in from all corners of the globe for Eva, this could be the one battle that Jose might have won, but he has made more enemies than allies.
