Diego Costa

The Blues striker Diego Costa is set to be offered a new deal which could make him their joint highest paid player along with Eden Hazard. Costa is set to receive a staggering £200,000-a-week should the Premier League top scorer sign a new deal with Chelsea.

The Spain striker was close to leaving Stamford Bridge to return to Atletico Madrid in the summer after struggling last season. But his 13 goals in this campaign have shot Antonio Conte’s side to the top of the Premier League table and Costa is in line for a bumper pay rise.

Chelsea want to offer the 28-year-old a two-year extension to his deal that expires in 2019 which would the Spanish international at the club till 2021. He is currently paid £150,000 a week and the deal could offer him a quite significant rise in pay. And the Blues are willing to offer the in-form forward with a lucrative deal to tie him down at Stamford Bridge.

Costa has started every Premier League game for Chelsea this season but must sit out the Boxing Day match against Bournemouth through suspension. Michy Batshuayi is expected to deputize.

Costa who is thought to have experienced some difficulty adjusting to the media scrutiny, weather and culture in England, is much happier under new boss Antonio Conte and is losing the ‘hot head’ tag that has long been associated with him.

The former Atletico Madrid forward completed his transfer to Chelsea on a five-year deal back in July 2014 for a fee understood to be around £32million and since then has made 97 appearances scoring 49 goals for the club.
