Chelsea must not hesitate to retain this 24-year-old star after a fantastic loan spell with PL rivals – Agreed?

Chelsea opinion: Chelsea should hold onto Kurt Zouma

Chelsea are at a crossroads. They have a club legend at the helm in Frank Lampard and have also appointed Petr Cech as head of technical performance.

Cech will mostly be tasked with being a bridge between the manager and the Chelsea board and provide advice on all football matters. Lampard is a young manager, with a year’s worth of experience in the Championship with Derby County.

However, they recently lost their best player for the most part of the last decade in Eden Hazard. The Belgian’s influence on Chelsea was massive. He was an extraordinary creator, a goalscorer and would often dictate the way a game would be decided.

The third factor in this transition is the transfer ban that has been imposed on the Blues for the summer and January transfer windows.

Chelsea are infamous for having players on loan and one of their academy graduates who has been on loan for the past two seasons is French international Kurt Zouma.

The 24-year-old’s future is still uncertain according to a report in the Mirror, with Everton hoping they can sign him after his performances for the Toffees last season while he was on loan.

Zouma suffered a terrible in the 2015/16 season, where he ruptured a cruciate ligament in his right knee and was ruled out for 6 months after a very impressive season.

However, he did not get much game time in his next season after making an appearance after 9 months on the treatment table.

He was sent out to loan in the 2017/18 season to Stoke City but this move did not help him develop much as they were relegated.

He got another loan move at Everton and Zouma looked like he was heading back to his best, forming a great partnership with former Manchester United academy graduate Michael Keane.

His performances from Everton should validate for inclusion in Chelsea’s set up under Lampard next year. Chelsea will be playing a lot of games next year after qualifying for the Champions League and having a player like Zouma will definitely help improve the squad.

Chances of a starting place will be a cause for concern for the Frenchman though, with Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz likely to be leading the defence for the foreseeable future.

Conclusion

Zouma will want to prove that he can show the form that he’d promised and Chelsea should hold onto him ahead of a difficult season.
