Premier League champions Chelsea are now looking to make a move for Roma defender Kostas Manolas in the new year, as per reports. The centre-back was being monitored by the Blues for quite some time now and reports in the Italian media suggest that Jose Mourinho’s side had made an offer which had been rebuffed on deadline day.

The Portuguese boss was quite busy towards the end of the transfer window, as he tried to bring the highly-rated John Stones to Stamford Bridge from Everton. However, the Portuguese manager was eventually left frustrated as the Toffees rejected three different bids made by the west London side and Chelsea had to sign Senegal international Papy Djilobodji instead.

Calcio Mercato have further added now that the Greek international is considered a long-term replacement for former England international John Terry. 24-year-old Manolas has a total of 37 Serie A appearances for the Rome-based side, since moving to Italy from Greek giants Olympiakos in 2014.
