Chelsea Latest Including Thibaut Courtois And Edinson Cavani

There has been a lot said about Thibaut Courtois since his arrival at Chelsea in 2011. Highly rated, the young goalkeeper looks set to take over as the Chelsea No.1 in a few years, assuming Chelsea can fend off interest from some of Europe’s best clubs. Recent reports from Spain and England suggest that both FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are preparing bids, as well as current loan club Athletico Madrid. With such demand, and praise coming from the continent over, the Belgian seems to be fast-tracking his development somewhat. Thibaut Nicolas Marc Courtois-one of Europe’s finest?

It will be a welcome news for Altelitico Madrid fans as it has been revealed on the club website that a deal between the Spanish club and Chelsea has been reached to prolong the stay of keeper Thibaut Courtois on loan for one more season. Courtois, who has always maintained that he would prefer to stay at Atletico, rather than moving to Chelsea, is visibly happy with the news and has stated

“I am very happy because it was what I wanted. I have always said that I wanted to continue at Atletico next season and take part in such an important competition as the Champions League after we qualified for it in such a brilliant way.”

Courtois is considered as a premier talent at the moment and is looked upon as the eventual successor to Petr Cech. But right now Atletico is benefitting from him to immeasurable lengths and he has proved to be a big influence for the club in the La Liga and the Copa Del Rey. Last season has had the distinction of conceding the least number of goals with 29 goals in 37 appearances and the club hope that he would have the same effect next season also. Courtois was purchased by Chelsea in 2011 and sent on loan to Atletico almost immediately. This would be the third season for Courtois at the Spanish capital.

In other news, which would please the Chelsea fans, Napoli striker Edinson Cavani has insisted that he is extremely happy with interests pouring in from clubs such as Chelsea and Real Madrid. Recently at an interview during the Confederations Cup in Brazil, he said:

“Who would not be pleased by the interest of Real Madrid and Chelsea?”

Cavani has been one of the most coveted strikers across Europe this summer and before the transfer season ends he should be on his way out of Napoli. New Napoli boss Rafa Benitez has stated that he would try his best to keep Cavani to the club, but after the player’s recent comments, there is practically no big hope among the management or the supporters.

Chelsea has lacked a genuine striker the previous season and Cavani ranks high up their priority list. Similarly Real Madrid are all set to part ways with Gonzalo Higuain and they want Cavani to fill in that slot. But a player such as Cavani would not come cheap though, with the transfer money expected to be around £53m.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has admitted that he expects Cavani’s decision before July when the striker return to Italy from his International duties in Brazil at the Confederations cup. Quoted by Sky Sports, De Laurentiis told Radio Rai:

“I don’t think Cavani will leave on 10th August, when his buyout clause expires. I’m confident in him, because I consider him a real man. He won’t make me a joke of me. Should Cavani want to leave, he will decide it after a long period of reflection. But by 20th July we will probably know everything about his future.

It has also been reported that the Uruguyan could wait as long as August 10th to make a decision by which the clause in his contract (£54m) would expire and allowing him to secure a better deal for any future club he is opting to sign.
