In a shocking move last night, Chelsea officials confirmed the recruitment of 40-year old Aussie goalie Mark Schwarzer. It came as a shock to everyone, as it is doubtful that how much this veteran goalmouth will get a chance to play for the Blues, where Peter Cech is still there to guard their fortress in front of the net.

But not thinking about all these, this Socceroos star is quite elated after getting a transfer from Fulham.

It’s an honour to sign for Chelsea. I didn’t take much convincing to come here. Sun quoted him saying.

He has a tremendous respect and adoration in his mind for the club.

I’ve spoken to the manager and it was very easy to make the decision that Chelsea was the right club for me.The size and ambition of the club and the opportunities at the club ticked all the boxes. It was an amazing opportunity to join a fantastic club.”

Last season, Schwarzer became the first overseas player to complete 500 Premier League appearances. It seems that he has solved Mourinho’s goalkeeping dilemma, after they released Ross Turnbull and Hilario. And this experienced Aussie will prove to be a great back up for the legendary Peter Cech.

In a statement, Chelsea couldn’t keep their delight of signing him. “He brings with him a wealth of experience after more than 15 years in England with Bradford, Middlesbrough and Fulham.

After a spell in Germany, Schwarzer joined Bradford in 1996. He then signed for Middlesbrough and played more than 400 times in 11 years. Highlights of his career included lifting the League Cup in 2003 and playing in the 2006 UEFA Cup final. He also appeared 220 times for Fulham.

In other news, Ted Terry, Chelsea captain John Terry’s father has been formally charged with racist attack.

Quoted by the Metro, Ted Terry is alleged to have carried out the attack on Fenchurch Street with two other men on March 22 this year. Ted along with Tudor Musteata, 47, and Stephen Niland, 36 have also been charged.

A police spokesperson told the Daily Mail: “As charges have now been brought we are unable to comment further on the nature of the incident.”

It looks like the trouble runs in their blood.
