What Should Chelsea do to Get Back on Track in the Premier League?

Two games in and the castle starts to crumble for Chelsea, Jose Mourinho seems to be feeling the heat after picking up just 1 point from the two opening fixtures, their worst start in 17 years. The Premier League crown might be going away from the Blue half of London as Chelsea try to get their bearings right in the Premier League.

The worrying part about this is the fact that Chelsea were favourites to retain their title, Arsenal fans might argue stating that they have a better team but Chelsea’s first XI were pretty much unbeatable last season and should have started this season in the same manner. Chelsea looks slow and haggard this season, and we are only two games into the season.

The Blues do not seem to be the same team that were bullying their opponents last season, they were the ones who were bullied by Swansea first, which was a surprise and then by Manchester City, who absolutely destroyed the Champions. Chelsea have conceded 5 goals in just two games, a problem in defence as well. The Blues look a little older this season and that isn’t a good thing as current results go by.

What should Chelsea do to get back this season?

Chelsea doesn’t have the largest squad in the Premier League, but they do have a lot of world class players, one thing they should do is play Cesc Fabregas in a more advanced role and not centrally with Nemanja Matic. We all know that Fabregas cannot play the holding midfielder’s role and him playing higher up the pitch would let him do the creative work and play with the likes of Hazard and Costa a bit more.

The other thing that Chelsea need to do is get Diego Costa 100% fit. The Spaniard does not look completely fit, we all know how great Costa looks when he is playing to his potential but when he isn’t 100% you know there is an issue. Playing Falcao in the striker’s role wouldn’t be the worst option for the Blues, they do have a lot of players who can score the goals and aren’t dependent on their striker always bagging the goals.

The one major concern about Chelsea is the form of one of their best players, Branislav Ivanovic. The Serbian looks a little sluggish this season and replacing him might not be that easy, but Chelsea do need to give the Serb some rest and bring in another player just to freshen things up. We did earlier speak about Chelsea not bringing in enough fresh faces into their team and that often stagnates a club in the next season.

This is exactly what is happening to Chelsea and they need to quickly need to fix these issues if they are to get back on track in the Premier League race. The good thing about this is that Chelsea have faced this problem at the start of the season rather than the end, Jose Mourinho has time on his hand and experience, which should help him get things turned around at Stamford Bridge.
