Chelsea FC: Should Mourinho Look Into These 4 Players Before Admitting That He Wont Spend Big?

Share

Jose’s second coming at Chelsea has started of with a strong interview in which the Portuguese tactician has claimed that he is not necessarily looking to spend big. Mourinho also added some meaningful words in his interview as he claimed that he wants to improve the current set of players and the squad before looking to add further.

Here is the full transcript of the interview:

“We have to improve the team, but when I say improve the team people are already thinking about how many millions Chelsea will spend. When I say improve the team, I mean through work. My work has to improve players and improve the team. If I don’t do that I am not happy with myself,” Mourinho pointed out.

“If after that we can improve the team by buying a couple of players it is fantastic, but I have to improve the team and the players with my work. The priority is to improve. In the last two years we have struggled in the Premier League. We must improve individually, improve collectively and improve the structure of the club around the football team, and try to win the next match,” the 50-year-old concluded.

So are the Blues going to sit behind and continue with the current crop of players? That’s highly debatable.

In the past few months the club has been through a turmoil and now they are aiming for the stability that Jose can provide to them. But Mourinho, of all other people, knows that for achieving the results he needs to have a superior team and sign on a few players. Even Roman has the full intention of backing him up and reportedly has agreed to shell a £100m in the transfer window. But the question remains whether or not Jose will use the entire amount. Howerver, we take a look at what could Mourinho possibly do with this kind of money to make a squad that will stand the test of time!

Edinson Cavani– Now that Falcao is gone to Monaco, Chelsea must go for Cavani to add the requisite depth in their attack. Cavani has been absolutely stupendous for Napoli this season and it is a given fact that former Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez, who is currently in charge of the Seria A club, would not wish to let go of Cavani. But a deal of £40m would be too much to refuse for them and Chelsea may just end up being on the winning side.

Marouane Fellaini– The Belgian has been absolutely breathtaking for Everton this season and would not only add to the rigidity of the Chelsea midfield but also will give a different look to their attacking flair. He could become a big factor between Chelsea finishing the season on a high or in a mediocre manner. He is also in the radar of Manchester United and would certainly command a fee of £25m.

Xabi Alonso– The former Liverpool player has been a pillar in the midfield for any side that he has played for and is thus highly regarded by Mourinho. Therefore it is believed that Jose Mourinho could make a bid for the Real Madrid star to provide the midfield with some solidity. A deal for the Spaniard should cost around £15m. Although there are not many rumours out there linking the Xabi to a Premier league return, but if it is Mourinho who comes calling, there’s no reason to believe this deal won’t happen.

Luke Shaw– Ashley Cole is not getting any younger and Chelsea must think of a replacement for the left back in the near future. Luke Shaw is one such left back who has been many clubs’ radar for his performance for Southampton. Transfermarket.com values the player at £4.5m, so we can assume that he would cost a lot more than this, especially with a number of bidders.

Although, Patrick Van Aanholt a loanee playing at the Eredivisie club Vitesse is ready to jump into the Premier league, Luke Shaw could be an immediate solution before accesing Van Aanholt’s progress for another season.
