Chelsea FC: £100m Warchest For Mourinho, What Would He Do?

Share

Outgoing Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez, who was subjected to violent crowd reaction from his first day in office, has been able to salvage his reputation somewhat after winning the Europa League beating Benfica. But it has been made clear by the management that his time at Stamford Bridge would end at the end of the season. So far Benitez has made two clear statements about the changes that Chelsea would go through next season onwards. While initially he said that everyone knew who would succeed him at the top next year, it was a clear indication that Jose Mourinho was tipped to be his successor next summer. Then after dramatic final, Benitez made yet another remark which has caused quite a stir. He said that the new manager in charge would be provided with a budget of £100m and 3 or 4 signings would be made. So we decide to take a look at how this huge sum of money would be spent by the Special One to strengthen the team further.

Andre Schurrle

The Bayer Leverkusen star would cost the London outfit around £20m and that is to quote the least price. He has been directly involved in 18 goals this season, scoring seven and assisting eleven, helping his side return to Champions League football. He has been linked with Chelsea to such an extent that even Leverkusen manager remarked a few days ago that Schurrle has already signed a pre-contract with the English Premier League team.

Edinson Cavani

Cavani poised to move to Chelsea

Chelsea’s need of a striker is imminent and Atletico Madrid man Radamel Falcao has been touted as the Blues’ new striker for sometime now. However, reports have emerged linking Falcao to French outfit Monaco due to some financial reasons involved in his contract.

It is been said that Chelsea have set their sights on the Napoli hit-man who has been an absolute revelation for his club. The forward, who is valued at £42.5m, will certainly be on the priority list of Mourinho and the manager should be optimistic as the forward himself has expressed wish to leave the Serie A side in the summer.

Xabi Alonso

The former Liverpool man is being linked to a move to Chelsea along with boss Mourinho. If brought in, the Spaniard will definitely be missing piece in Chelsea’s midfield puzzle and Knowing Mourinho’s style out and out, he will be able to easily slip in his role and the new club. Although it is expected that Alonso will be available for a cut price, Chelsea will need to shed a respectable amount of money for a player of his class.
