The coming season of the Premier League promises to be absolutely thrilling. With some of the best managers in the world all in charge of the top English clubs, the League will be wide open. Not only managers, but clubs are revealing new signings every day. The likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Joel Matip, Nolito, Ilkay Gundogan have all sealed moves to England. With teams likes Tottenham and Leicester really stepping up, it will be really hard to predict who will be crowned champions come May. Chelsea produced on the worst title defences in the history of the Premier League last season. They played with no real desire or conviction, their manager seemed to have lost the dressing room and age seemed to be catching up with some of the senior players. The whole controversy that led to the resignation of team doctor Eva Carneiro didn’t help either. It was a season that saw Jose Mourinho relieved of his duties for only the second time.
Roman Abramovich’s decision to appoint Antonio Conte should prove to be a good one. He’s already shown with Italy at EURO 2016 that he can turn a group of average players into one of the favourites for the championship. His tactical insight is brilliant and he brings real energy. He’s already tasted success while in charge of Juventus, winning 3 Serie A titles. However, it will be very hard to finish in the top 4. Manchester United, who narrowly missed out on 4 th place on goal difference, have significantly strengthened.
Appointing former Chelsea manager Mourinho show they mean business. The Portuguese manager has never finished outside the top 3. They’ve also made 3 significant signings in the hopes ofboosting their squad, of course Zlatan Ibrahimovic being the marquee one. Liverpool have already madesignificant strides under Jurgen Klopp reaching two finals and now with the summer window, he’ll trulybe able to make the squad his own. With Guardiola at City and the amount of money they have to spend, write them off from the title challenge at your own risk. The Spaniard is one of the finest managers of our time and like Mourinho is a treble winner.
Although Hazard has found form again, the future of Diego Costa is uncertain. Oscar seems to have become surplus to requirement. Zouma won’t be fit to start the season and neither Ivanovic nor Cahill have lived up to the mark. Fabregas too really needs to step up. The signing of the young Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi is definitely a step in the right direction. Although it will probably be very tight at the top, Chelsea under the leadership of Conte should finish in the top 4. Along with them, United, City and Tottenham look the best bets to finish in the top 4 spots.
