Although Jose Mourinho calls himself ‘The Special One’ he is still susceptible to mistakes, as he is shown at Chelsea this season.

Loaning Lukaku to Everton

Everton fans will see this as a stroke of genius by new boss Roberto Martinez, as he has been one of the Premier League’s success stories this season with 7 league goals, more than Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba combined. This has left Chelsea a little short up front, Torres hasn’t looked the same since leaving Liverpool and it is the same scenario for Eto’o since departing Inter, while Ba hasn’t been given enough of a chance to impress this season, even though he is the type of striker that fits perfectly in Mourinho’s style. If Lukaku had stayed at the Blues this season, they would have been a much greater threat going forward.

Dropping Juan Mata

When a manager joins a new club, usually one of the first things they hope for is that the clubs best player plays as well for them as they did for the man they replace, but it must be a first that a manager confines his best player to the bench, as that is exactly what Mou has done at Stamford Bridge. Voted Chelsea player of the year 2 seasons in a row, Mata bought the creativity Chelsea were lacking and also became a fan favourite. The immensely talented Spain international has been linked with moves to Atletico Madrid and Juventus in recent weeks, and if the links are legit, Mourinho must rectify his mistake before it is too late, but unfortunately for the former Real Madrid manager, the damage may already be done.

Trusting in Gary Cahill

Cahill is a decent defender with plenty of Premier League experience. Seemingly, he is a player that would be desired by most clubs in England’s top flight, though he is not good enough for a club with the same aspirations as Chelsea. Although David Luiz is unreliable and to put it fairly, a pretty awful tackler for a defender, but he can bring more to Chelsea than the former Bolton man can. The Brazil international has a decent passing range and can also pitch in with the goals, as there is almost an expectation for the ball to fly into the top corner when he unleashes one of his trademark thunderbolts from distance. Cahill is not a Champions League quality player, although he can do the job against the weaker teams in England, he cannot produce against Europe’s better sides and must be dropped.
