Chelsea 3-1 Sunderland: Chelsea Player Ratings In Drogba’s Final Game

Chelsea 3-1 Sunderland: Chelsea Player Rating

The last game of the season was more of a carnival-like affair for Chelsea as they hosted Sunderland at Stamford Bridge. Everyone knew that they would be presented the Premier League trophy after the game and that this was Didier Drogba’s last game. The result was immaterial, but Chelsea won the game after coming back from a goal scored by Steven Fletcher of Sunderland.

The Blues had goals from Diego Costa and a brace from Loic Remy in the second half ensured that the Champions ended the season with a win. Didier Drogba was literally carried off the field by his teammates after he was substituted as a great gesture for the Ivorian; with the season coming to an end we rate the Chelsea performance against the Black cats.

Petr Cech: 7/10

Cech might have been playing his last game for Chelsea, he didn’t cover himself with glory after the first goal he conceded but was solid for the rest of the game.

Branislav Ivanovic: 7/10

A typical Ivanovic performance as he ran up and down the right side of the Chelsea team and showed just why he is the most consistent right back in the Premier League.

John Terry: 8/10

Another performance by the skipper where he turned back the years, Terry was his usual self as he drove his team on after conceding the goal.

Gary Cahill: 7/10

A decent performance by the English centre back, nothing too special but not poor either.

Cesar Azpilicueta: 7/10

Didn’t do much to support the attack but had a decent showing in defence for the team.

John Obi Mikel: 7/10

A good performance by the Nigerian, Mikel was tough in midfield and helped his team by making a few important tackles and joining in attack when required.

Nemanja Matic: 7/10

Set up Remy’s second goal and ran his socks off in the midfield of Chelsea, his role in the team has grown and he looks every bit the important player Jose makes him out to be.

Juan Cuadrado: 7/10

Finally a decent performance by the big money signing, Cuadrado still has a long way to go before he can claim a starting position at Chelsea but this performance was a start.

Willian: 7/10

Willian worked hard for his team like he always does and provided a good outlet for attack down the left hand side for Chelsea.

Eden Hazard: 9/10

The star of the show once again, Hazard was exceptional in the game and was probably the best player on the pitch.

Didier Drogba: 6/10

Didn’t really do much in the game and was not given the time to either, this was a game for a send-off for Didier and he deservedly got one.

Substitutes:

Diego Costa: 7/10

Scored a penalty to bring the teams back level and did his best for the team.

Loic Remy: 8/10

Scored two goals and showed just why he can be an important player for Chelsea next season as well.

Andreas Christensen: 6/10

Got 12 minutes action, Christensen might have a bright future at the club and hopefully a bigger role to play next season.
