The UEFA Champions league saw two tightly contested games conclude on Tuesday night, Barcelona came away with a 2-1 win over Manchester City at the Etihad while Juventus defeated a resilient Borussia Dortmund at home 2-1.
While the games were close contests in terms of score-lines, Barcelona were the better team throughout the tie against Manchester City and could have scored more than the 2 goals of Luis Suarez, they could have actually scored a third had it not been for the Lionel Messi penalty save from Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart.
Juventus were also brilliant against Borussia Dortmund and could have actually kept a clean sheet had it not been for an unfortunate slip by Giorgio Chiellini who let Marco Reus through for Dortmund to score after Carlos Tevez had given the Italian team the lead, however Alvaro Morata scored the winner in the 42nd minute, however it was Dortmund who had more of the possession and does have an advantage going into the second leg thanks to their away goal.
With so much action going about, it might be a little tough to name the best XI from the Champions League games but here we go.
Hart might have conceded a couple of goals but had it not been for him, they could have conceded a lot more.
The entire Barcelona defence was worthy of praise and Dani Alves was no different, he might be on his way out from Barcelona but his performances can’t be questioned.
A performance which was good by Pique, he has often been criticised this season but he showed just how classy he really is.
Mascherano might prefer to play in midfield but that cannot happen at Barcelona and he performed well at the back for Barcelona.
Manchester United fans might be missing him but Evra has done a pretty good job at Juventus and makes the team of the matchday.
There really weren’t many stand out performances from midfield and hence had to go with a simple choice which was Sergio Busquets.
Another decent performance by Iniesta, he didn’t really wow anyone but still was one of the better players on display.
Pogba also did not have the greatest game but he was still good in midfield as he tries to take Juventus to Champions League glory.
Reus might have only had one good chance but he took it well and this was the perfect way to celebrate signing the new contract with Dortmund.
Tevez is the lifeline for Juventus as their forward, he might be more than 30 years old but he still gives them a lot of bite in attack.
Ex-Liverpool star finally showed just how good he is and provided a master class performance to beat Manchester City.
