Celtic signing this promising 22-year-old wing wizard would be smart business by Neil Lennon – Here’s why

Celtic FC Opinion: Why should Celtic sign Husein Balic?

According to a report from Daily Record, Celtic are keeping tabs on Austrian winger Husein Balic as Neil Lennon seems set to keep the transfer spree alive.

The 22-year-old plays for SKN Polten and caught attention when he featured in the Euro U21. The report also adds that Balic would cost around £700,000.

Balic – one of the promising stars in Austrian Bundesliga

Balic made his Bundesliga debut in the 2017/18 campaign but made a name for himself in the following season. In the long run, the Austrian prospect bagged 11 goals and 6 assists in all competitions.

And his set of impressive displays helped his side narrowly avoid the relegation zone. Balic has also earned 5 caps for Austria’s U21 side so far.

Celtic’s need for quality wide men

The Celts did live up to their exceeding expectations as they continued their dominance by clinching a domestic treble once again in the 2018/19 campaign.

As of now, however, Neil Lennon seems to be running out of winger options as Timothy Weah has already made his return to PSG and Oliver Burke’s stance remains uncertain.

Burke, 21, had an underwhelming loan spell at Celtic Park and is bound to return to his parent club West Bromwich Albion.

Meanwhile, Scott Sinclair, an experienced English winger, has already fallen down the pecking order and doesn’t seem like a viable addition to the future.

Given this, the Celts must consider the option of signing Balic, who has loads of talent and is brimming with confidence.

Balic is synonymous with various positions up in the front, despite being a natural winger. The Austrian youngster can also embrace slightly deeper roles, especially on the left side of the flank.

Final verdict

The Scottish giants have already captured some promising youngsters, namely Christopher Jullien, Boli Bongoli-Mbombo and Luca Connell.

And with European glory turning out to be Lennon’s primary objective, Lennon should reinforce his side’s attacking line-up and signing Balic would be a good option.
