Celtic signing this talented 23-year-old for £2m would be nothing but daylight robbery by Neil Lennon

Celtic opinion: Should the Hoops sign Jack Stacey?

According to a report from The Sun, Celtic are considering a £2m move for Luton Town’s right-back Jack Stacey as Neil Lennon is figuring out Mikael Lustig’s replacement.

The Swedish international announced his departure from Celtic Park this summer and is set to join hands with Gent. The Hoops are in the race with Stoke City for the signature of Stacey.

Stacey’s brilliant season with Luton Town

The 23-year-old played a pivotal role behind the Hatters’ promotion to the Championship next season. In the process, Stacey bagged 4 goals and 8 assists in 50 appearances across all competition.

The English prodigy was named as the Luton Town’s player of the season for his string of great performances.

Mikael Lustig

The former Reading player made his Luton Town switch in 2017 and had an immediate impact in his debut season at Kenilworth Road, helping his side earn a promotion from League Two. He also bagged the club’s best young player of the season honour.

The Hoops are in need of a right-back

The Celts’ primary objective will be finding a right-back as they want to cope with the absence of Lustig.

The 32-year-old’s incredible run will be remembered for good and finding a replacement who can bring the same amount of success like Lustig did, in the long run, looks quite a difficult one.

And Stacey would be a valuable addition, given the form he is in. The English defender can play as a wide midfielder and often likes to get into the attacking third- His stats are the testimony.

Verdict

The Scottish Champions heavily relied on Lustig.  And his deputy during that time, Jeremy Toljan, who is on loan from Borussia Dortmund, failed to make any sort of impact and his future at Celtic Park remains uncertain.

Given this, the Hoops should prepare for the future without Lustig and Stacey should be his long-term replacement.
