According to reports from English news outlet the Examiner Live, Celtic are interested in a move for Huddersfield Town star Mathias Jorgensen.
The 29-year-old commonly known as Zanka has further expressed his interest to end his time with the Terriers and that gives the Hoops an advantage.
They lead the race for the Danish star and it’s a move that they need to make. A tall and bustling defender, the 6ft 3in star has more to his game than just aggressive defending, although he happens to be good at that as well.
However, his touch and astute eye for a pass separate him from the crowd of other defenders, as Celtic look to replace Dedryck Boyata.
He is 29 years old but for a defender, that’s somewhere in and around their prime. Not only that, despite Huddersfield’s dismal showing in the Premier League, the Danish star was amongst their standout stars. His large frame was an everpresent for David Wagner.
Zanka was one of the few dropped by Siewart, as he looked to change his team and was absent towards the end of the season.
Despite that and Huddersfield’s struggles, Celtic need someone like Zanka in their team-sheet, especially going forward.
While the club may have won another domestic treble, despite their issues, they need reinforcements. The fact that the former interim manager Neil Lennon managed to guide them to the treble even after losing Brendan Rodgers says a lot about the team.
However, with them losing Boyata to a Bosman transfer with the Colombian joining Hertha Berlin, the Hoops need replacement. It won’t be an easy task, especially given just how well the 28-year-old played for Celtic in the Scottish Premiership. But that being said, if there is one man who can do just that, it’s Zanka.
As mentioned above, the 29-year-old has done relatively well for himself in the Premier League and the Danish leagues before that, showing his class time after time. Not only that, his consistency and ability to keep himself fit for the entire season will help Celtic.
There is the fact that Zanka does want to leave Huddersfield and that makes everything so much easier for Celtic.

Losing Dedryck Boyata will certainly hurt Celtic but losing him as a Bosman will hurt the club even more as it means no money for someone they’ve nurtured.
However, adding someone just like Mathias Jorgensen will help the club stay strong in the Premiership.
