Celtic signing this predatory Spanish star would add a different dimension to their attack next season

Celtic FC opinion: Roger Marti would be a perfect Burke replacement

Roger Marti is a Spanish centre-forward who was born in the small town of Torrent in the famous footballing city of Valencia. Having come through the Valencia academy as a teenager, he was quickly scooped up by Levante in the summer of 2011.

He is a 28-year-old Spanish forward who has had loan spells at Zaragoza and Valladolid over the last few years and has really come into the fore this season. He has stepped up to the plate for his club on more then one occasion this season.

Celtic are currently Scotland’s strongest club and there’s no denying that fact but Kilmarnock and Rangers could give tough competition to the Hoops going forward.

They have had a fairly impressive season and they have managed to maintain their grip at the top of the Premiership despite stiff and fiery competition from the chasing pack.

They are 10 points clear at the top of the table above second-placed Rangers. While the sudden departure of manager Brendan Rodgers to take over the job at Leicester City did come as a blow, it doesn’t seem to have hit them too badly.

While this squad looks complete in most senses, the addition of a player or two certainly wouldn’t hurt.

Also, considering that two of their strikers are currently at the club on loan and another is unavailable due to personal reasons, the purchase of a striker to aid Odsonne Edouard next season will be smart.

While Edouard has done extremely well this season, having scored 12 times from his 24 league appearances this season, the loan deals of Timothy Weah and Oliver Burke are set to expire at the end of the season and replacing them must be on the agenda at Celtic Park.

Leigh Griffiths is currently taking a break from football due to personal reasons and while he is certain to return eventually, taking a risk to wait for him could cost the Hoops.

This is why a move for Roger Marti should be high up Celtic’s list in the summer. The Spaniard has scored 10 times this season in La Liga from his 24 games and this has made him their top scorer for the season so far as well.

Showing excellent pace and positioning inside the box, he does have the right kind of attributes to excel in the Scottish league.

Conclusion

Marti’s movement and agility will be useful in Scotland where aggression is preferred over dynamism, and the addition of Marti would be the beginning of the end of that trend.
