Should Celtic Move In For This Manchester United Star?

Brendan Rodgers might have brought in Kolo Toure to provide much needed cover for the defence but it still is not enough as the club looks to ensure they do not have to deal with a lot of injured centre-backs, something that did hurt Rodgers during his last season with Liverpool.

The new manager has tried to bring in more players and one such star who could be on his way to the side is Paddy McNair. The Manchester United youngster could be on his way to the Bhoys, at least on loan but more importantly is this the right kind of deal for Celtic?

McNair was one of the few players who actually did well during the Louis van Gaal reign, especially in the first season for the Dutch manager but saw his playing time greatly reduced last season due to injuries.

While he would not be playing regularly at Celtic, he wouldn’t be doing the same at Manchester United also, this move could be a win-win situation for both sides.

Paddy would be looking to prove that he can play at the highest level and if he does impress at Celtic or at least during the training sessions, he will get a chance to perform under Rodgers. The former Liverpool manager was known to give youngsters a fair chance at the club and this philosophy could well be brought into Celtic also.

The Manchester United defender would not be getting a lot of playing time at the Premier League side and with Jose Mourinho in the manager’s seat; it is more or less a guarantee that he would not be playing many games at all, barring a few Europa League and Carling Cup matches.

Paddy also seems to be versatile as he was deployed as a central midfielder in a few games last season and that means he could be used by Rodgers in a similar position as well. The Northern Irishman has often chopped and changed his side and that could well mean a new role for the youngster.

McNair needs to be play more football and a fresh start could very well be the best option for him. Celtic don’t really have a lot of young defenders in the side and if the Manchester United youngster does perform really well at Celtic Park, he could have a long future under Rodgers and with Celtic as they look to return to European competition and do well in the Champions League.
