Celtic FC Opinion: Hoops linked with Ronan Darcy – Good move?
According to a report in Scotsman, Scottish champions Celtic could beat English side Chelsea for the signature of young Bolton forward Ronan Darcy, and can get him on a compensation fee.
The Hoops have been monitoring the 18-year-old’s situation for some time now. With Bolton’s financial turmoil and relegation too playing a part, they might be forced into a situation of selling their player (h/t Scotsman).
Furthermore, the other club interested in Darcy is Chelsea. But the Blues are currently undergoing a transfer ban for the next two transfer windows. Hence, it might be tough for them to overturn that punishment and then look to sign young players (h/t Scotsman).
Cross-border rules also allow Scottish clubs to buy English-based players for a far small amount compared to the other English teams (h/t Scotsman). So that can easily work in favour of Celtic if and when they make a move for the Bolton man.
Here’s why they should sign the 18-year-old this summer:
Darcy could help the youth team of the Hoops
Ronan Darcy is a fantastic young forward who possesses the quality of a genuine goalscorer along with his abilities to stretch the defence and create space for others in the final third.
He has impressed many around Bolton with his game so far, attracting interests from some of the big clubs in England and Scotland (Chelsea and Celtic) (h/t Scotsman).
The 18-year-old still has some learning to do in terms of always making the best possible decision in the final third but he has time to do that and become a more lethal player in front of the goal.
Furthermore, Darcy can also play as a support striker or as an attacking midfielder, versatility which would always help any team during the course of a season.
Celtic can sign him and use him in the youth team. The 18-year-old can ply his trade there and could then challenge for a place in the first-team in the years to come.

If the Hoops manage to sign Ronan Darcy this summer, they would get a player who is already a great talent and could become better in the coming years. It should be a no-brainer decision from the club to make a move for the teenager.
