Why Celtic are right in offering new deal to Callum McGregor
According to a report in Herald Scotland, Scottish champions Celtic will consider offering a new contract to Callum McGregor after they rebuffed interest from his former boss Brendan Rodgers to take him to Leicester City.
While the manager has assured that the player is fine with his current situation at the club, there are suggestions that a new contract will be on the table soon to reiterate the importance of the Scotsman. (h/t Herald Scotland)
McGregor has been one of the important assets at the Parkhead and a model of consistency. He never fails to provide the goods whenever on the field.
Below, we analyze his influence on the team, his playing style and how Celtic would only benefit from having him for years to come:
McGregor is too important a player for Celtic
Callum McGregor is a versatile midfield player, who prefers to play the number 10 role behind the striker but is also comfortable operating as a central midfielder or on either wing.
If we analyse his game in depth, the Scotsman is at his best while playing behind striker. From there, he can work his magic in between the lines, creating chances and also scoring some of them.
The 26-year-old netted six goals and supplied 16 assists in 59 appearances in all competitions last season. Not a bad return for a player who wasn’t at his best at all times in the past 12 months. Imagine the impact he can/has already generated at Celtic when at his best!
Despite having four more years left in his contract, it is paramount for the Hoops to offer a new deal on the table. This will reiterate the importance of the player to the club.

Thus, we can conclude by saying that Neil Lennon and his men wouldn’t be wrong to offer a contract extension to Callum McGregor.
