There is no denying that Celtic are one of the most popular clubs in the world. The Hoops have clinched the Premiership title for the last seven seasons and now look set to add another feather in the cap.

Rodgers played a huge role behind their success and in fact, he would easily go down as one of the best managers in Europe.

Yet the Northern Irishman’s glory at European competitions always remains a conundrum for all. The Hoops manager couldn’t transform their success in the Premiership to Europe.

Rodgers said regarding the debacles at European competitions, ( h/t Daily Record)

“The perception has never bothered me. The reality of it is we’re going into European football while at a different level and market.

“What we have to do is find a way to win. So is it defend on the edge of our 18-yard box for 90 minutes and suffer? Maybe get a point or just lose a game 3-0 instead of 6-0? That’s not me.

He also reminded some earlier and big defeats against Barcelona and PSG which were all result of the poor performances.

Closing the gap important for Celtic

“We make mistakes and it’s about trying to bridge that gap between the levels we play at domestically to then coming in against top European teams.”

The manager further pointed out the Scottish club’s win against Leipzig and Anderlecht this season.

He commented on Valencia’s performance as the Spanish side counted on their mistakes in the field.

The Hoops suffered a major setback at Celtic Park against Valencia in the first leg and they were able to bounce back with their league win over Kilmarnock.
