Celtic FC News: Ex-Rangers defender Henry played down Celtic’s dominance

The Celts have become a flagship franchise in Scotland by winning seven league titles in the last seven years.

Yet, Henry feels that a lack of competition with their arch-rivals Rangers has taken the gloss off their dominance.

The Gers broke into Scotland’s top-flight only in 2012 after four long years.

It shouldn’t really be but I don’t think it was helped by the period where Rangers weren’t in the Premiership.

“Everybody suffered. Celtic suffered because they didn’t have an Old Firm game to play and irrespective of them achieving what they are going to achieve, it’s not fully achieved because Rangers weren’t there for several years.

Regardless of the fact, the Light Blues couldn’t overpower the Celt’s dominance over the years, as they remained trophy-less all season.

And since Brendan Rodgers arrival at Celtic Park a few years ago, the gap has gotten wider.

The Hoops also won two consecutive domestic trebles under the Northern Irish manager.

Neil Lennon, who undertook the managerial role on a makeshift basis, has replicated the success story of Rodgers.

The former Hibernian has already won 6 games, without a defeat and is aiming for another treble.

He had notable victories against Celtic in the derby last month and in the Scottish Cup semi-finals against Aberdeen.

Lennon is the favourite to become the next full-time manager of the Hoops.

The Celts will play against Kilmarnock this Saturday.
