Celtic FC News: Celtic shows interest in John Mahon of Ireland

Celtic FC News: According to The Daily Record, Celtic and Rangers have increased their interest in John Mahon of Sligo Rovers.

The Irish defender is currently bound to the Rovers till 2020.

The report states (h/t The Daily Record ) that Celtic and Rangers have been spotted scouting the teenager during last week’s game between Sligo and Dundalk.

Besides the two Scottish giants, Blackburn and Derby County are also keeping tabs on Mahon and it is believed that the teenager prefers a move to the Hoops over others.

With Mahon’s spell nearing its end, the Irish club is looking around a six-figure fee from the other clubs to negotiate a sale.

Mahon growing at Sligo

Mahon broke into the senior squad of Rovers back in 2018 and went on to win the player of the month award on consecutive occasions for his brilliant displays. And manager Gerrard Lyttle also heaped praises on Mahon’s talent.

The 19-year old received his maiden U-21 call in January under the reign of newly-appointed manager Stephen Kenny.

Celtic are currently leading the Scottish Premiership table with an undefeated streak since the turn of 2019.

Brendan Rodgers has set his eyes on the eight consecutive Premiership title.
