Celtic opinion – Hoops linked with Silas Wamangituka – Good Move?
According to a report in the Scottish Sun, Scottish giants Celtic are eyeing a move for £4.5m-rated Paris FC striker Silas Wamangituka.
It is claimed that the Hoops’ manager Neil Lennon watched the frontman perform against Valenciennes on Monday night (h/t Scottish Sun). Liverpool and Barcelona scouts have watched him in the past few months (h/t Scottish Sun).
The 19-year-old has attracted interest from many top French clubs as well, along with Fiorentina and Hamburg after impressing in his debut season at the Ligue 2 (h/t Scottish Sun).
With Lennon making a personal visit to watch the player, it is clear that the Celtic boss is very keen to sign the player in the summer window (h/t Scottish Sun). Here’s why it would be a good move for the club:
Celtic need a ruthless striker up front
As per the report, it is almost certain that loanee duo of Timothy Weah and Oliver Burke would be back with their parent clubs, once this season ends (h/t Scottish Sun).
Hence, Celtic would be short in the striker department, with Odsonne Edouard being the only option left.
In fact, since selling Moussa Dembele late in the last summer window, the Hoops haven’t replaced the Frenchman with someone on a long-term basis. Therefore, they need a striker who can bang goals for them with consistency.
For that reason, signing Wamangituka would be ideal for the club. The teenager has impressed everyone around in his first season for Paris FC. With nine goals and one assist in 27 appearances for a Ligue 2 side that has only scored 33 goals in 35 games, is pretty decent.
The 19-year-old possesses good pace to trouble defences and is very good at finishing his chances in the box. His height (189cm) allows him to be strong in the air and win various aerial duels.
Furthermore, Wamangituka’s contract expires next summer, thus, if the Parisian club wants to offload him, they have to do it this year.
