Celtic beating Rodgers to land this 27-year-old speedster would strengthen a key position in the summer

Celtic FC opinion – Hoops linked with Omar Elabdellaoui – Good move?

According to Greek news outlet SDNA, Scottish champions Celtic are set to go head-to-head with Leicester City for the signature of Olympiacos right-back Omar Elabdellaoui.

The Norway international, who has had his spells in England with Hull City and Manchester City, is currently plying his trade in Greece. He is almost certain to leave his current club in the summer window (h/t SDNA).

Along with Celtic, their previous manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring the 27-year-old to Leicester City this summer (h/t SDNA). The Foxes are keen to add more quality to that position, with Danny Simpson’s contract expiring and Ricardo Pereira being the only other option.

However, here’s why the Hoops should beat the Foxes in the signature of Elabdellaoui:

Celtic require a quality option at right-back

It is pretty clear that Celtic would like to make signings in the upcoming transfer window. In terms of their right-back situation, Mikael Lustig’s contract expires in May and an extension hasn’t been agreed thus far. On the other hand, Jeremy Toljan is on loan from Dortmund till the end of this season.

Therefore, getting a quality right-back on a long-term basis would be the right way to go. For that purpose, Elabdelloaui could be the right man for the Hoops.

The Norwegian international is quality player, who can ply his trade at right-back and as a right-sided midfielder.

The 27-year-old possesses good pace to make runs up and down the pitch. He is also pretty good at crossing from wide areas, winning one-on-one duels and defending when required.

If the Olympiacos man arrives at Parkhead this summer, he could add a different dimension to this Celtic team on the right-hand side. His experience of playing in various leagues would hold him in good stead.
