Celtic FC opinion – Parkhead would be a better destination than Ibrox for Ikpeazu

According to a report in the Sun, Old Firm rivals Celtic and Rangers are keeping close tabs on Hearts striker Uche Ikpeazu. The former Blackpool and Reading youngster, who was playing in the League Two last season for Cambridge United, has had a decent season at Tynecastle Park.

As per the report, Premier League side Cardiff City are also interested in the Englishman. However, it is suggested that the player would be staying at the Scottish Premiership next season, be it at Hearts or some other club.

Ikpeazu was closely watched when he scored the winner for Hearts against Aberdeen last week. As a result, Celtic and Rangers directed their attention towards him (h/t Sun).

Since the 24-year-old signed a new contract with Hearts until 2022 last month, the Jambos would be looking for around £1million for their centre-forward (h/t Sun).

Here’s why Celtic should beat Rangers to the signature of Ikpeazu in the summer transfer window:

Celtic could do with a target man striker like Ikpeazu

Since selling Moussa Dembele last summer, Celtic haven’t been able to sign a striker who can lead the line on a regular basis and put the ball into the back of the net consistently.

They have Odsonne Edouard, Oliver Burke (on loan from West Brom) as the options but getting someone who can be a target man up front and link up with other forward players would be ideal for the Hoops.

Hence, beating rivals Rangers to the signature of Uche Ikpeazu wouldn’t be a bad idea. The Englishman does possess the quality of being a target man up front, can win aerial duels, provide knock-downs and link up with the midfield runners.

His height (190cm) also allows him to be a genuine threat from set-pieces. All in all, at such an affordable price, Celtic can get a very good striker who can enhance their front line.
