When Real Madrid’s goal keeping sensation Iker Casillas suffered a severe injury to his left hand, it was feared that he may miss the rest of the season. But it is told and the skipper himself announced that he is almost ready and can play at the end of this month.
“Thank you for all the messages of support that you have sent me over recent weeks. The end of the tunnel is near!”
These were the words posted on Facebook by Iker Casillas.
It was a clash with team-mate, Alvaro Arbeloa, in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals against Valencia in January that caused all the trouble. Despite being told he would need at least 12 weeks to recover, the goalkeeper could be ready to play again by the end of this month, a little over two months since he picked up the injury.
It is now estimated that in two week’s time, he would have made a full recovery and will be available to Mourinho again. It will then be the coach’s decision whether or not Casillas makes the squad list for the game against Zaragoza at La Romareda.
In the meantime, the Madrid captain continues to work alone in the gym and out on the pitch for a couple of hours at a time with with goalkeeping coach Silvino Louro. It’s expected that in a week’s time, Iker will be working with the group again and participating in the practice matches where he will be trying to convince Mourinho that he can once again be counted on between the sticks.
Do you think that Iker Casillas will earn his place back straight away or that Mourinho will continue starting with Diego Lopez?
