Arsenal’s season has hit another low after an embarrassing defeat in the hands of fellow fourth place contenders, Everton.
Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher blamed Arsenal defenders Monreal and Vermaelen for their clueless defensive performance against the Toffees .
Speaking on SkySports Monday Night Football, He said,
“Monreal and Vermaelen were the two worst players on the pitch.”
“Defensively they were shocking at times and bullied by Lukaku.”
“They (Everton) battered them on the pitch and you could say Roberto Martinez battered Arsene Wenger tactically really. He had it spot on.”
Former Arsenal legend Ian Wright joined the blaming bandwagon too and criticized Monreal.
He said, (to BBC 5 Live)
“He (Martinez) put Lukaku on one of the weakest players in the Arsenal squad, he hasn’t got the strength to challenge him.”
Even former Tottenham player and manager Glenn Hoddle said the same about Vermaelen,
“It’s a very poor goal to concede. Vermaelen should have done better. He doesn’t react. He was too slow getting across to cover, it’s not like the old Arsenal back four.”
