Cardiff City opinion: Why the Bluebirds should go all out for Eamonn Brophy

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Cardiff City are set to make a £1million bid for Kilmarnock striker Eamonn Brophy.

The 2018/19 season was a breakthrough campaign for this Glasgow-born striker. Eamonn Brophy, 23, who joined the club from Hamilton Academical in 2013, scored 12 goals in 33 games for Kilmarnock last term and helped Steve Clarke’s men secure European football.

The report, however, claims Kilmarnock will listen to offers for the Scottish attacker this summer. That being said, Cardiff City have to get a deal done for Eamonn Brophy ahead of the new campaign.

After a bitterly disappointing end to the 2018/19 campaign, Cardiff City will be looking to pick themselves up and go again next season, as Neil Warnock’s side seek an immediate return to the Premier League.

It’s been a busy summer for the Bluebirds in the transfer market, with more activity set to follow.

The core of the Welsh outfit has pretty much gone, Bruno Manga, Aron Gunnarsson, Harry Arter, Victor Camarasa and Kenneth Zohore having departed. But four new faces have already joined – midfielder Will Vaulks, centre-backs Aden Flint and Curtis Nelson and goalkeeper Joe Day.

Now, Neil Warnock’s men will be desperate to bounce straight back next season, although one position that definitely needs bolstering is up top.

Zohore has joined West Brom, meaning that Cardiff don’t really have too much competition for places up top. They have Gary Madine and Danny Ward but Warnock just cannot rely on the duo for consistent supply of goals.

Bobby Reid showed flashes of his potential in the Premier League and he’ll certainly be keen to prove his worth in the second tier.

However, one cannot deny the fact that the Bluebirds need a new goalscorer in their ranks and Warnock would do a good job by landing Eamonn Brophy.

Brophy is an explosive forward capable of playing in a variety of forward positions but he is at his sublime best when unleashed through the middle.

Blessed with good pace and power, the Scotland international is adept at racing in behind defenders, running the channels and pressing from the front.

He is a highly energetic player and at 23, the Scotsman is still young and has a lot of room for improvement.

Due to his qualities and style of play, Brophy won’t take much time in adapting to Championship football.

He’ll also be a good fit under Warnock at the Cardiff City Stadium, as the Scotsman can potentially form a lethal partnership with the pacey Bobby Reid.

Verdict

Brophy will represent a real bargain for Cardiff in an otherwise extremely inflated transfer market and Warnock shouldn’t hesitate one bit to sign him.
