Opinion: This Cardiff City star from last season would be a superb addition to Rodger’s Leicester City

Leicester City opinion: The Foxes should go for Victor Camarasa

According to the Leicester Mercury, Leicester City are one of the Premier League clubs interested in signing Real Betis midfielder Victor Camarasa.

The Spaniard, 25, starred for Cardiff City on loan from Real Betis last season, hitting five goals and four assists in his 32 appearances. However, he couldn’t help the Bluebirds avoid relegation from the Premier League and has now returned back to Betis.

Despite being eager for a fresh start at Benito Villamarín Stadium under new boss Rubi, the report claims that Victor Camarasa remains open to a permanent move this summer. Tottenham and West Ham also are keen for the creative playmaker, but Leicester City must win the race for the 25-year-old’s signature.

Leicester City finished the 2018/19 season in a respectable ninth position, playing a possession-based, high-octane brand of football, following the appointment of Brendan Rodgers in February. Rodgers will be keen to build on this strong end-of-season form and push for a place in the top-six.

If the Northern Irish manager wants to bring European football back to the King Power Stadium, he’ll need to bring some new players and try holding on to the key players of his squad.

Having snapped up young James Justin from Luton Town on a five-year deal last week, the Leicester boss should look out for a new striker and a central midfielder.

Youri Tielemans impressed in the second half of last season at Leicester while on loan from AS Monaco and Rodgers is keen to make the deal permanent. However, the Telegraph reports that Manchester United, Tottenham and AC Milan are also interested in the Belgian midfielder.

That should make it difficult for the Foxes to sign Tielemans, given the likes of United and Tottenham are bigger clubs and would be able to offer European football next season.

Should the Midlands club fail to land Tielemans, Rodgers would be wise to shift his attention towards getting Camarasa.

A technically gifted and tactically versatile midfielder, Camarasa is creative, skilful and a set-piece expert. The 25-year-old has got the flair, vision and movement to add more potency to the Foxes’ play in the final third.

With Rodgers already having the likes of James Maddison, Jamie Vardy, Harvey Barnes and Demarai Gray, the addition of Camarasa would make Leicester’s attack inarguably one of the best in the Premier League.

Verdict

Camarasa could go on to make a massive impact at the King Power Stadium next season, and while Tottenham and West Ham are in the race for the 25-year-old’s signature, Rodgers should definitely give it a go and do his best to accommodate him in next season’s plans.
