‘Can’t wait to open the new stadium in the Championship’ – Tottenham Fans Rage On Twitter After Frustrating Loss To Chelsea + Player Ratings

Full Time: Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur lost their first home game of the new Premier League season, as London rivals Chelsea defeated Mauricio Pochettino’s side 2-1 at the Wembley Stadium, on Sunday.

Marcos Alonso opened the scoring for the Blues in the 24th minute and Spurs mounted the pressure on the visitors. But Antonio Conte’s men survived the onslaught to go into the break with their lead intact.

The equaliser finally came for the North Londoners with just 8 minutes left on the clock, when Chelsea’s substitute Michy Batshuayi put the ball into his own net, from a Christian Eriksen free-kick. But the parity lasted for just five minutes, as that man Alonso, once again found the back of the net in the 88th minute.

Here’s how the Tottenham players fared on the day.

Tottenham Player Ratings

Hugo Lloris – 5/10

Could do not anything for the opener but let the ball slide under him for the Blues’ winner. Distribution too was not up to the scratch.

Eric Dier – 6/10

Booked at the half-hour mark for a poor challenge on David Luiz. It was an average performance from the Englishman – neither spectacular, nor terrible.

Toby Alderweireld – 7/10

A strong and dominating presence at the back for Spurs. Was booked for a foul on Pedro.

Jan Vertonghen – 6/10

Steady performance for large parts of the game. Was cautioned for a poor lunge on Victor Moses and could have easily been sent off for the same.

Kieran Trippier – 6/10

Made an early return to fitness, but looked a little rusty at times. Did not have the usual effect going forward down the right-hand side.

Victor Wanyama – 5.5/10

Forced a save from Thibaut Courtois in the first period and fired one wide in the second-half. He lacked the usual sharpness that he brings. Lost the ball for the winner.

Mousa Dembele – 8/10

Beast in the midfield. Broke up play very well and made powerful driving runs forward. Criminally underrated at times.

Ben Davies – 7/10

Got forward really well and fared better than Trippier on the other flank. Delivery needs more polishing though.

Christian Eriksen – 8/10

Another effective display in the final third as he was involved in all good things. His deliveries from set-pieces were class apart. One of his free-kicks was diverted into the net by Chelsea’s Batshuayi.

Dele Alli – 6/10

Quiet game when one looks at the unbelievably high standards he sets each time. There were sparks of life in between, but not enough.

Harry Kane – 7/10

Led the line extremely well and had a number of chances. But he could not find the back of Courtois’ net. Hit the woodwork. Was booked.

Substitutes

Son Heung-min – 6/10

Replaced Dier in the 68th minute. Could not influence things a great deal.

Moussa Sissoko – N/A

Came on for Davies with 10 minutes left.

Vincent Janssen – N/A

Replaced Trippier in the injury time as Spurs chased another equaliser.

The fans did not seem happy with the result and for obvious reasons. Here’s how they reacted on Twitter.
