Aston Villa got a club-record ninth straight win by getting the better of Bolton 2-0 at the Macron Stadium. Second half goals by Jack Grealish and Tammy Abraham were enough to win the game for Dean Smith’s men, who are now fifth in the table and well on course for a playoff spot finish.
Villa had early chances in a game they dominated from the get-go. Anwar El Ghazi fired his attempt wide after Grealish found him with a good cross.
John McGinn had his goal-bound effort cleared off the line by Harry Brockbank. They eventually took the lead in the 47th minute when Abraham found Grealish with a cross towards the far post.
The latter then had a rather simple task of heading the ball into the back of the net. Ten minutes later, Grealish returned the favours to Abraham by picking up possession from McGinn and setting up the striker to head the ball home.
The Villans had 21 attempts on goal with 66% possession in total. They deserved to win this game hands down.
On the other hand, Bolton are officially relegated from the Championship after this defeat. But it was joy for Dean Smith and his men as they continue their resurgence towards a potential Premier League promotion.
