Jurgen Klopp and his boys are set to continue their successful run this season, as Liverpool are one of the biggest candidates to win Premier League this term, but Klopp and his staff know that they need to make a few changes in the team in order to remain competitive until the end of the season.

The Reds are currently chasing Antonio Conte’s Chelsea in the Premier leaderboard and seeing their clash in a couple of weeks, Liverpool will want to face Conte’s squad with the best men they can have.

Klopp created a wonderful team after Brendan Rodgers’ departure and now, the German boss wants to reach the only title Liverpool is missing, the Premier League. But for that, he needs to assemble a team that can assure him the trophy at the end of the campaign. This would definitely be a hard job, but seeing the extreme competition from every English team, they have to move fast if they want to reinforce the important positions in line-up.

Liverpool have been extensively linked with Southampton’s centre-back Jose Fonte, a player who has is in the best moment of his career. Right now Jose is going through a great moment in his life, as he is being tracked by some important teams in Europe but mostly by English clubs, as all the giants want to acquire his services, and now Liverpool are one of those.

However, many people have doubts about the actual impact Jose can make at Anfield, and this is something really important seeing the age of Fonte. But if Liverpool wants to be more competitive this season, they need to pursue Fonte as soon as possible. The guy is on the cusp of his career, and if Liverpool wants to take advantage of that, now is the time.

Seeing the talented defences Klopp had back in his days with Dortmund, Liverpool’s personnel are far from the best, but Jurgen has demonstrated he can build a great team and Fonte could mean the beginning of that. Although his biggest failure is the left-back position, a centre-back might bring better things to this team which has been experimenting with its players for the last months. It seems like now is the moment to have the defence that Liverpool needs.

Jose has a lot of experience, he is a born leader and he can be a mentor for the younger guys. He has shown a lot of confidence playing for the Saints, and even more when he faces bigger teams. He must be doing something good with Southampton, as giant clubs like Manchester United showed interest in the Portuguese defender.

Liverpool needs to move fast on this one if they want to enjoy the quality of Fonte. Liverpool used to have a great defensive set-up in the past which included Sami Hyypia and Jamie Carragher, but now Fonte can become a referent in its defence playing alongside Joel Matip, as he’s already shown Claude Puel and his Saints’ team with Virgil van Dijk next to him.
