Can This Manchester United’s Rising Star Impress For England In The Euros?

Share

Let’s all just not get way too ahead of ourselves already!! The European championships are upon us and the managers have already announced their squads for the tournament, as they choose their best players to feature at the top level. England manager Roy Hodgson also picked 23 man final squad for the competition and one name which surprisingly popped up was Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, who was a totally new star on the scene.

The Red Devils’ forward made his Premier League debut in the previous campaign and was impressive under former boss Louis van Gaal, as he managed to save the Dutchman’s job time and time again with superb performances and goals to his name.

The 18 year old superstar was Van Gaal’s last hope, when his side was hit by a goal drought and injuries to some key players and he surely did not disappoint the manager and the fans.

After an impressive set of performances for the Old Trafford based side, the England coach, Hodgson decided to include him in his squad for the friendlies as well. Rashford responded by scoring on his debut and making a name for himself at the international level as well.

Despite all the success and his name being included in the Euro 2016 squad, there is still doubt whether he will get a chance to play in the tournament or not. The reason is simple.

The Three Lions at present have two competitors for the “Golden Boot” from last season, with Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy both in superb form, with the former beating his compatriot by as single goal, as he scored 25 goals for Spurs in the league campaign.

The duo should definitely be the first choice for the England boss and should be used as per the manager’s liking right through the tournament. Apart from that Wayne Rooney has been listed as a forward as well, though his playing position will be determined as the tournament goes on.

Further, there is Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge who is also available as a substitute on the bench and will be above Rashford in the pecking order. The Reds’ star has been in great form and his finishing is quite good as well, though injuries have been taking a toll on him, due to which he has been in and out of the side. The United man could be in the squad, as a backup for Sturridge, who is still struggling for fitness and might not play a major role in the tournament.

If such a situation arises, Rashford could be playing for the national side mainly as a sub and hopefully he can produce some of the magic for the team as well in the limited number of chances that he might get. England will be quite desperate to win the title of the champions of Europe and it will be interesting to see how things shape up.
