Bye bye Pulis – Three top replacements Middlesbrough can target including former Brighton boss

Middlesbrough opinion: Three replacements for Tony Pulis

With Tony Pulis allowed to leave by Middlesbrough, Boro need a new boss. The former West Bromwich manager did well with the club finishing just one point behind Derby County in the race for the final promotion playoff spot.

However, while the dismissal may have been amicable according to the Guardian, the Riverside club now have a huge battle in front of them. Their aim is to make it back into the Premier League and doing it has proven to be a very tough task.

But with the right manager leading the club, it’s not an impossible one. That being said, here are three replacements for Tony Pulis

Jonathan Woodgate

The 39-year-old is amongst the top candidates to take over from where Pulis left over and given the rather impressive job he’s done with the U-18 side, it’s no surprise. A fan favourite, Woodgate only recently retired from playing football.

That is after spells at Middlesbrough, Newcastle United and most notably Real Madrid. A wild-card option, Woodgate doesn’t have any managerial experience with any top flight clubs and was appointed as the assistant manager for the U-18s in 2017.

He’s done a rather impressive job with the club’s young starlet but it remains to be seen if he can do it with players more experienced and with a much bigger ego.

Chris Hughton

A proven manager, Hughton is certainly a name that will help Middlesbrough get back into the Premier League, given his recent past.  He has done it with Newcastle United all the way back in 2010.

However, most notably he’s done it with Brighton and Hove Albion. It’s his third spell as a manager where Hughton really earned his reputation, doing exceptionally well with the players and the budget he was given at the club.

It took them some time but the club made it to the Premier League. Given Middlesbrough’s desperate need to return, Hughton not only has the experience but the managerial style that will help win over the fanbase.

Graham Potter

While reports have indicated that Swansea City have offered Potter a new deal in an effort to keep him at the club, it would still be a great move for Boro. A talented manager, Potter has worked wonders with the Swans and helped them finish 10th in the Championship this season.

Known for his innovation and methodical approach, the 43-year-old would be a great addition at Middlesbrough. His method of using a combination of players from all walks of life and a rather exquisite looking style of play should help the Boro faithful get over Tony Pulis.

Siddhant Lazar

Tom Landry once said "Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable." Football is and always will be the beautiful game. What every child understands, yet every adult struggles to, is that it is a game that defines the nature of the universe. But that's just me.
