Bye bye Mustafi? – 3 top class alternatives who Arsenal can target including Burnley star

Three players Arsenal could sign to replace Shkodran Mustafi this summer

According to the Daily Mirror, Arsenal have transfer listed Shkodran Mustafi and are prepared to sell him for £22.3m this summer.

Signed two years ago from Valencia, Mustafi has blown hot and cold at the Emirates, failing to find his feet in the Premier League. The German, however, is one of the most experienced members of the Arsenal defence.

The Gunners have Calum Chambers, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Sokratis Papastathopoulos but they do not have enough depth, with Laurent Koscielny sidelined due to a serious knee problem.

If Emery decides to sell Mustafi, he must find a replacement as well. Keeping that in mind, here are three ideal replacements that Arsenal can sign.

James Tarkowski (Burnley)

James Tarkowski has excelled at Burnley since replacing Michael Keane and his strong points can certainly see him replace Mustafi if he leaves Arsenal.

James Tarkowski

The Manchester-born star impressed this past season, guiding Burnley to a seventh-place finish in the Premier League. Tarkowski would be a decent replacement for Mustafi and with his strong communication skills and good passing range, he could lift his game at the Emirates.

Moving to Arsenal would be the perfect move for Tarkowski as well as the club.

Caglar Soyuncu (Freiburg)

Soyuncu has been one of the most promising defenders in the Bundesliga and he would suit Emery’s style of play at Arsenal.

Çağlar Söyüncü

The young Turk from Freiburg is extremely comfortable in the air, using his tall, lengthy frame to win aerial duels. He is also blessed with a surprising turn of pace that is essential in the Premier League.

Soyuncu also has international experience, having represented Turkey. While he may not be an immediate replacement, he would be perfect for Emery due to his ball-playing abilities.

Jonathan Tah (Bayer Leverkusen)

Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah is fast becoming one of the most accomplished and coveted young central defenders in Europe.

Tah’s style of play, as well as his physical, technical and tactical attributes would suit Emery’s tactics. Adept at holding onto the ball and building possession patiently from the back, Tah could be a great replacement for Mustafi.

The German is a brick wall at the back, blessed with good pace and abilities. Tah’s composure, accuracy and clever passing skills should ideally enable him to slot seamlessly into Arsenal’s set-up.
