By The Numbers: Liverpool Player Ratings Against Arsenal – Mignolet The MOM

Liverpool faced Arsenal in one of the big clashes this season, the Reds had won both their opening games and were looking to win the third game in a row while Arsenal were hoping for a win in front of their home fans. Both teams set out for attack, while Liverpool had the better chances in the first half, Arsenal scored a good goal but it was wrongly ruled out for offside. Liverpool had hit the bar and also had Petr Cech playing in great form to deny them twice.

The second half saw Arsenal dominate with Sanchez hitting the crossbar and Mignolet pulling off a couple of great saves from Ramsey and Giroud. Mignolet was excellent throughout the game and probably was the man of the match. We rate the Liverpool players in an entertaining draw between the two clubs.

Simon Mignolet: 9/10

Mignolet might not look the best when it comes to crosses but he was excellent and had some fantastic saves to deny Arsenal.

Nathaniel Clyne: 7/10

Clyne was a rock at the back but was caught out of position a couple of times by the runs of Sanchez and Ozil down the left.

Martin Skrtel: 81/0

Skrtel was brilliant in defence and his performance in the second half under all that pressure proves he is Liverpool’s best defender.

Dejan Lovren: 7/10

The Croatian has slowly gotten back to his best in his second season at Liverpool and this was another solid display at the back without any major mistakes.

Joe Gomez: 7/10

He did have some trouble in the second half but Gomez is slowly making the left-back role all his own.

Emre Can: 8/10

Was a rock in midfield and didn’t do much wrong, one of his best performances for Liverpool.

James Milner: 7/10

Milner played in a couple of different roles throughout the game and did well enough in them, nothing too flashy but certainly a decent display.

Lucas Leiva: 7/10

Playing his first game of the season, Lucas did a good job in midfield. Age hasn’t caught up to him and it will be interesting to see if he does stay at Liverpool at the close of the transfer window.

Philippe Coutinho: 8/10

Coutinho was unlucky not to score in the first half when he hit the crossbar. He was the best attacker for Liverpool and put in a great shift for the Reds, once again.

Roberto Firmino: 7/10

The Brazilian got his first start for the club and looked in decent touch, his understanding with Coutinho and Benteke is growing and he should get better as the season progresses.

Christian Benteke: 8/10

Benteke had a shot brilliantly saved by Cech and the Belgian striker did well and tormented the Arsenal central defenders all game.

Substitutes:

Jordon Ibe: 6/10

Ibe came on to replace Firmino but didn’t really do much in the second half.

Jordan Rossiter: 6/10

The youngster replaced Lucas Leiva and although he didn’t have to do much in the second half, it will do his confidence a world of good with this performance.

Alberto Moreno: NA

Brought on in the final few minutes and had one great run but that was all the Spaniard could muster.
