Bundesliga Rising Their Standards – UCL Is The Example

The three clubs that represented Germany in the champions league this season have all topped their group . Schalke  outclassed Arsenal finishing top in group b, like wise Dotrmund and Bayern Muncih all topped their group. Dortmund played in the group of death along side Real Madrid, Manchester City and Ajax in group D and were finished comfortably with 14 points from the 6 games played .

Bundesliga clubs have showed that they are capable of going all the way in the Champions league in the recent past, and though Bayern did not manage to lay their hands on the trophy, they did reach the finals on two occasions in the previous three years and have also won it back in 2001.

Reasons behind the German sides putting out a fight against the likes of Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United may be many but one thing is certain, unlike their other compatriots German clubs have managed to stay clear of debts which is a major  problem outside Bundesliga. And of-course the youth talent that they have managed to produce in recent years. The likes Gotze, Marco Rues, Mats Hummels, lewis holtby are a few names to mention.

One would expect Bayern to win the group which includes Valencia, Lille and Bate Borisov but Dortmund and Schalke to top the group is something of an achievement. Dortmund did it in style as they went to England and gave the English champions a run for their money in the last round of the group stage.

This season saw the emergence of Schalke into the limelight as they topped the group which had Arsenal, Montpellier  and Olympiacos. The royal blues had a splendid outing in Europe thanks to their youngsters especially Lewis Holty and Julian Draxler and Netherlands International Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez believes the Bundesliga is perhaps the best competition in Europe at the moment, given the performances of German teams in the Champions League recently.

“All (three German teams) deserved to win their groups. It’s nice to see that the Bundesliga is alive and catching up with the very best leagues,” Gomez told the UEFA website.

“In terms of strength across the board, I’d even say it’s the best at the moment. The top teams are all performing strongly in Europe.”
