Bristol City are making a massive statement of intent by beating Celtic to sign this all-action 26-year-old star

Bristol City opinion: Bristol City are making the right move by signing Tomas Kalas

According to reports from the Bristol Post, Bristol City will beat Celtic to Tomas Kalas, with the Robins looking for a new defender. This comes just a day after the club signed Jay DaSilva from Chelsea after the 21-year-old spent a successful spell with the Robins. The fee hasn’t been released yet, but the move will be confirmed officially on the 1st of July.

However, the Bristol Post has revealed that the next move that Bristol City will make is for Tomas Kalas and that the 26-year-old will become their highest paid player. It’s a move that should have happened weeks or even months ago after Kalas’ performances on loan for the Robins.

But now that they have finally pulled the trigger, the club is better for it. The 26-year-old finished the season, having made 38 appearances in the Championship as Bristol strolled to an 8th place finish.

Kalas played an integral part in manager Lee Johnson’s backline. The Czech Republic star played well enough to rack up appearances for his national side’. His partnership with Adam Webster was key to Bristol City making a late run at a playoff spot, falling just short in the end.

An all-action defender, Tomáš Kalas excels as a ball-playing centre-back but the 26-year-old also uses his agility to stop moves before they happen. It’s what the Robins have lacked over the years and what Kalas added during his loan spell.

Furthermore, time and loan spells all around the world have made him very tactically astute and able to adjust to any manager’s style of play and tactics, which is an even bigger boost. His aforementioned athleticism does allow him to play across the defensive line, even as a full-back if needed, which could come useful.

While he hasn’t played as a full-back this season, it’s the move that could give the Robins the boost they need. Consistency was one of their biggest issues last season, with the club struggling to maintain a push into a playoff spot.

They did get very close eventually, finishing four points behind Derby County but it needs to improve. Adding Tomas Kalas will help them do just that and with time, the 26-year-old could just be the man that Bristol City could build their backline around.
