Brilliant Roberts – The Best And The Worst Rated Celtic Players From The 2-0 Win vs Rangers

Full Time: Rangers 0-2 Celtic

Celtic claimed the bragging rights over bitter rivals Rangers once again, as they defeated Pedro Caixinha’s side 2-0 at the Ibrox Stadium on Saturday.

After a tightly contested first-half, the Hoops finally managed to take the lead about six minutes into the second period, as Tom Rogic fired his shot high into the roof of the net. With 65 minutes gone on the clock, striker Leigh Griffiths finished with aplomb to make it 2-0 for Celtic, after being found brilliantly by Patrick Roberts.

With the win, Brendan Rodgers’ side are 5 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table ahead of second-placed Aberdeen and 8 points ahead of the Gers, who are third.

Here’s how the Celtic players fared on the day:

Celtic Player Ratings

Craig Gordon – 6/10

Made a save to deny Alfredo Morelos at 1-0. Did not have a whole lot to do apart from that.

Mikael Lustig – 6/10

Started shakily and gave away the ball too easily at times. Improved after the break. Shot saved late in the game.

Jozo Simunovic – 6.5/10

Was given a hard time by the strength and physicality of Morelos in the first half, but held things together. Headed over the bar from close late in the game.

Dedryck Boyata – 6.5/10

Used his strength well against the threat of Morelos, but passing was off the radar on a few occasions before the break. Was much comfortable afterwards.

Kieran Tierney – 7.5/10

Good early cross for Griffiths, who headed over. Could’ve picked out Roberts early in the game, but went for the goal and missed. Daniel Candeias and James Tavernier posed a few problems down his side, but held his own and came out on top.

Scott Brown – 8/10

Bossed the midfield with another strong display. It was clear that he was fired up for the game and it showed in his performance.

Stuart Armstrong – 8/10

Denied by Foderingham in the first period. Dominated the midfield battle against Graham Dorrans and Ryan Jack.

Patrick Roberts – 8.5/10

Had Lee Hodson at bay with his flair and skills on the right flank. Had a shot saved in the first-half and it was his scuffed effort that fell to Rogic for the opener. Set Griffiths up for the second, with a brilliant pass.

Tom Rogic – 7/10

Had a brilliant early shot denied by Wes Foderingham. Made no mistake when another opportunity presented itself after the restart.

Leigh Griffiths doubled Celtic’s advantage

Scott Sinclair – 7/10

Fired over the bar in the second period, after getting past James Tavernier and McCrorie. Had a fairly quiet first 45 minutes, but was a huge threat after the break.

Leigh Griffiths – 7/10

Should have put his team in the lead after ten minutes, but headed over. Showed his class with a fine strike for 2-0. His set-piece delivery was top notch as always.

Substitutes

Callum McGregor – 7/10

Replaced Rogic in the 62nd minute. Continued pegging away and started the move for the second goal.

James Forrest – N/A

Replaced Roberts with fifteen minutes left.

Moussa Dembele – N/A

Came on for Griffiths late in the game.
